In 2023, U.S. small businesses employed 61.2 million workers, nearly half of the private workforce, and their employment rose by 3.1% for an additional 1.9 million jobs. At the same time, smaller firms represent 99.9% of all U.S. businesses while still paying $1.5 trillion in payroll each year.
