Gaugius asks a question most software comparisons skip: will the company behind this tool still be a good partner in three years? If you're using its statistics or Best Lists to support a decision, you'll want to know how those assessments are made and who pays for the research. This guide covers both.

---

## The Short Answer

Yes, Gaugius is a legitimate research platform with a documented process, named analysts and published rules for vendor-funded research. As with any secondary source, its statistics should be traced to their original publication for high-stakes uses, and its Best Lists should be read with their review dates in mind. The rest of this guide explains why, and what to check.

## What Gaugius Does Differently

Gaugius launched in 2026. It publishes more than 12,000 industry statistics reports across over 120 industries and software Best Lists covering tens of thousands of software categories. The statistics library is free to read without an account.

Its distinguishing feature is vendor-level assessment. Alongside features and usability, Gaugius looks at four things about the company behind each tool:

- Vendor stability and track record: how long the company and product have been around, and what has happened to them.

- Support quality: which support tiers exist, what the SLAs say, and what you get at the price you pay.

- Release cadence and roadmap: whether the product is visibly maintained.

- Migration path in and out: what can be exported, in what format, and what you'd lose by leaving.

The goal, in Gaugius's own framing, is recommendations that still hold in three years. Where a product carries maturity risk, Gaugius names it plainly rather than leaving buyers to discover it later.

Paid services include custom market research from €5,100, software advisory from €2,700 and ready-made industry reports from €519.

## How a Gaugius Assessment Is Made

Every report and Best List goes through the same four-step process.

An editor sets the brief first. For a statistics report, the editor defines the topic, questions, geographies and time horizon. For a Best List, the editor defines which products qualify, the minimum feature set, and the evaluation dimensions. Nothing is gathered until that brief exists.

AI search agents gather the record. They locate primary sources and extract each figure with its provenance: the document, the date and the passage it came from. For Best Lists, they also collect vendor documentation and changelogs, aggregate written reviews, and transcribe video reviews and podcasts. They don't decide what gets published.

Analysts check every claim against the documents. For statistics, that means comparing the figure, date, sample, method and context with the original paper, table or filing. For products, it means reading each claim next to the official documentation and the changelog. Independent reviews are used only when the review itself is what's being cited. Anything that can't be traced to its original source is left out.

An editor approves publication. Analysts write the report and make the evaluation; an editor approves every piece. An AI summary is treated as an input, never as the decision.

## Documentation bands

Each claim on Gaugius carries a band that tells you how much documentary support stands behind it:

- Documentation-backed: matched in the vendor documentation or the changelog, or, for a statistic, in the original publication.

- Thinner dates: the documents agree in direction, but the dating is weaker.

- Single document: only one document has been opened so far; the changelog or an independent review is still missing.

## What's filtered out

Statistics reports exclude sources with undisclosed sample sizes or opaque methodology, self-reported industry data presented as objective measurement, sources with clear commercial conflicts of interest, and figures that rely on a single unverifiable primary source.

## Review cycle

Every report is reviewed at least annually, fast-moving sectors more often, and each page shows its last review date. Errors and updated primary sources lead to corrections, and the change is noted.

## How Gaugius Is Funded, and How Vendor Money Is Contained

Gaugius generates revenue from custom research, industry reports, software advisory and display advertising, and discloses affiliate links at the top of any article that contains them.

It also publishes vendor-funded studies. Vendors fund them because they want rigorous, comparable research on their market to exist. Because a vendor-intelligence platform taking money from vendors is an obvious question, the rules are worth reading in full:

- Each study is co-funded by several of the vendors it assesses. No single vendor funds a study, and sharing the cost is what keeps rigorous research affordable.

- Funders may propose the market to be studied. They do not choose which vendors are included, set or weight criteria, or approve findings.

- The protocol comes first. Before research begins, an editor fixes the market definition, the inclusion rules for the vendor set, and the evaluation criteria and their weights. The protocol is published with the study and doesn't change once research starts.

- Every vendor is treated the same. All vendors in scope, funders or not, are assessed against the same criteria and offered the same factual-accuracy check on their own products before publication. Changes are made only where documentation supports them, the same standard Gaugius applies everywhere. Findings, scores and statements about other vendors are not open to review.

- Every completed study is published as found.

- Studies are kept separate. They go through the same pipeline, source checks and exclusion rules as all Gaugius research, but they're never cited as evidence in its statistics reports or Best Lists and have no effect on rankings.

## What the disclosure looks like

A vendor-funded study is labelled at the top of the page:

> Vendor-funded research

> This study was co-funded by several of the vendors assessed in it. No single vendor funded it, and no funder chose the vendor set, set the criteria or approved the findings. Protocol and methodology →

Its methodology section then names the funders:

> Funding and competing interests

> This study was co-funded by several of the vendors assessed in it; no single vendor funded it. Funders could propose the market studied. They had no role in selecting vendors, setting or weighting criteria, analysing data or drawing conclusions, and they received the same factual-accuracy check as every other vendor assessed.

If you rely on a vendor-funded study, read the funder list and the published protocol, and state the funding when you cite it.

## The People Behind It

Gaugius publications carry named bylines, and the analyst team's backgrounds are published on its about page. Best Lists show the analysts responsible for them.

---

## Is Gaugius a Legitimate Company?

Gaugius is operated by Global Commerce Media, a company registered in Germany. Its company details are published on the site and can be checked in the German commercial register. Reading the statistics library requires no account and no personal data.

## Where Gaugius Has Limits

It's a young platform. Founded in 2026, Gaugius has a documented process but not yet a long track record. Weigh it accordingly.

Vendor assessment depends on what vendors document. Gaugius checks claims against documentation and changelogs. If a vendor documents little, the assessment will say so, but it can't fill the gap with information that isn't public.

Statistics are secondary. For academic, legal or policy work, cite the original publication. Gaugius lists the source so you can.

Assessments age. Vendors get acquired, change pricing or slow down releases between review cycles. Check the review date, especially for fast-moving categories.

---

## Who Gaugius Is Best For

Gaugius is most useful for IT leads, procurement teams and operators making multi-year software commitments, where the vendor's stability, support and exit path matter as much as the feature list. It's also a sound starting point for anyone who needs a sourced statistic and is willing to check the band and the date before citing it.

## How to Cite Gaugius Well

Check the documentation band on the figure or claim. Note the review date. If the page is a vendor-funded study, mention the funding. And for anything high-stakes, follow the source link and cite the original.
